Jonas Hallgrimsson was born in 1972 in Reykjavík, Iceland.  He studied photography at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art & Design (1995-1996) and Reading College of Art & Design (1996-1998).  While living in the UK, Jonas worked for model agencies like Elite before moving on to portrait and editorial photography.

In 2001 Jonas moved to Tokyo where he lived and worked for 5 years (2001-2006).  While living in Japan, he worked for a number of Japanese and foreign magazines, as well as for such companies like Sony and Warner.

Jonas moved back to Iceland in 2006 and since then he has worked as a freelance photographer in Reykjavik. He also worked as a full time photographer for The National Museum of Iceland (2008-2012). In 2008 he began photographing fitness competitors in Iceland. So far, Jonas has photographed more than 230 competitors and is hoping to finish the project and publish a book later this year. Jonas has exhibited his work in Iceland, Japan and the UK.
